Beloved San Francisco-based literary fanfiction competition Shipwreck returns to New York Comic Con on Saturday, October 6th at Shop Studios. Seven great writers write fanfiction about six of Stephen King's greatest, terrifyingest, coke-iest hits: CarrieChristineItMiseryOn Writing, and The Shining. Those stories are read aloud in front of a live audience by Randy Havens (Stranger ThingsArcher). You vote for your favorite before we reveal who wrote what, and the winner is cast off from polite society.

See! Seven respected writers debase themselves for applause and dick jokes. Marvel! As beloved characters are plucked from their worlds and made to do stuff they were never meant to do in places they were never meant to see. Pray! That you never have to sit on stage and face a crowd while someone else reads your fanfic. Drink! A lot, probably.

Cool gifts for VIP ticketholders, like posters and pins and stuff.  BUY TICKETS HERE.

Featured Writers:

Ziwe Fumudoh is a writer at The Rundown with Robin Thede. She has a web series called Baited with Ziwe. Her jokes have been featured in The Onion, Above Average, and Reductress. Additionally, her tweets have appeared in Buzzfeed, CNN, Cosmopolitan, The Fader, NPR, NYMAG, and the New York Times.

Josh Gondelman is a writer and comedian who incubated in Boston before moving to New York City, where he currently lives and works as a writer for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Onstage, Josh charms audiences using his good-natured storytelling and cracks them up with his sharp, pointy wit. He takes topics from surprise parties to his experience teaching preschool and makes them all equally hilarious. In 2016, he made his late night standup debut on Conan (TBS), and he recently made his network TV debut on Late Night With Seth Meyers (NBC). Offstage, Josh has earned a Peabody Award, two Emmy awards, and a WGA Award for his work on Last Week Tonight. He is also the co-author (along with Joe Berkowitz) of the book You Blew It, published October 2015 by Plume. His follow-up, Nice Try, is set to come out Fall 2019 through Harper Perennial.

Ivan Hernandez is a writer and podcaster currently situated in New York City. He enjoys cooking, science fiction, and weed. His work has appeared places like Boing Boing, Litquake, and the erotic fanfiction anthology Loose Lips. Boars, Gore, and Swords, the TV and movies podcast he co-hosts with comedian Red Scott, has surpassed over eight million downloads. Give Me Fiction, the reading series he produced in San Francisco, regularly sold out. Besides that, he doesn’t feel the need to prove himself to anyone.

Maris Kreizman is an avid reader who makes time to watch TV in between books. She's the creator of Slaughterhouse 90210, a blog and book(Flatiron Books, 2015) that celebrates the intersection of literature and pop culture. She's a writer and critic whose work has appeared in the New York Times, the LA TimesVanity Fair, The Cut, BuzzFeed Books, The ToastThe HairpinVultureEsquireGQOUT , and more. She was previously the editorial director of digital content at B&N.com, and a publishing outreach lead at Kickstarter. As a former book editor (Free Press/S&S) and editorial director of Book of the Month, she very much enjoys critiquing her own writing.

Seanan McGuire writes things. It is very difficult to make her stop writing things. Sometimes we have to resort to throwing a ball into the nearest cornfield and telling her to go get it. Because it is so difficult to make her stop writing things, she has a lot of books—like, forty since 2009—and now writes comics for Marvel. We're not sure she sleeps. She lives in the Pacific Northwest, really likes swamps, and will show you pictures of her cats if you stand still for too long. Follow her at seananmcguire.com. Or don't. Whatever makes you happy.

Alanna Okun is a senior editor at Racked and the author of The Curse of the Boyfriend Sweater (Flatiron 2018), an essay collection about crafting. Her writing has been published in The New York Times, NPR, BuzzFeed, Apartment Therapy, and The Hairpin, among others, and she's appeared on TODAY, Good Morning America, and many other local and national TV and radio programs. She is the owner of a staggering amount of yarn.

Nate Waggoner’s writing has appeared in the Columbia Journal, Barrelhouse, Okey-Panky, The New York Observer, Paste, The Hard Times, and elsewhere. He and Amira Pierce host the Funny / Sexy / Sad reading series in Brooklyn. (He is also last year's champ, back to defend his title.)

With a special performance by Choirfly: New York's premier nerd-themed a cappella group!

Tickets are $45 for VIP's (only 20 available) and $20 for General Admission. BUY TICKETS HERE.
