The "Speculative Fiction" shelf is crammed full of everything from the weird to the truly wondrous, and the works of our panelists are no exception, offering up wars between cats and robots, doctors for the undead, nature spirit kidnappers, circus-traveling mermaids, and Scooby squads all grown up. How do these authors balance the surreal with the real -- the weird with the relatable -- to create emotional characters with propulsive stories that matter to readers of any age?
