A Hero with a Thousand Faces: From Ms. Marvel to Spider-Gwen
October 04, 2018, 1:30 PM - 2:15 PM

As different iterations of classic superheroes emerge (Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Gwen), what remains consistent is the archetypal and sickle journeys of so many heroes in comics. Using Joseph Campbell's A Hero With a Thousand Faces this panel will discuss the universal appeal of comics and how so much of that appeal is based on readers seeing themselves in the work and following along on the hero's journey. Using this framework, educators and librarians can incorporate the hero's journey in teaching and discussions of classic works - like the Odyssey – into present day.
CTLE Credit Available for Eligible Attendees.
