Meet your Cosplay Judges!
Sayakat Cosplay
Sayakat Cosplay is an award winning cosplayer and has been cosplaying since 2014. She has honed her skills through the years and enjoys utilizing her expertise and experience to help others learn and make their own cosplay. She has a PhD in biology and over 15 years of teaching experience, including secondary and collegiate level, workshops, kids cosplays classes, and more. She brings a unique skillset to teaching others and to the community. She is a generalist and does not specialize in one particular area of cosplay crafting because she likes to do it all!
Silhouette
Silhouette has been cosplaying for well over a decade, and as a result has no fewer than 10 Loki cosplays in her closet. She specializes in highly elaborate, detail-heavy cosplays from fantasy and sci-fi, and never misses a chance to include embroidery, leatherworking, and fabric manipulation in her costumes. Her many-layered builds are full of an appreciation for storytelling in costume, and she considers every cosplay an opportunity to add a new technique to her toolbox.
She firmly believes that cosplay is for everyone no matter what their background or skill level is. Everyone starts somewhere, and no one stops learning. In a world of fast fashion and social media trends, she is an advocate for slow and deliberate costume creation. Silhouette also works professionally in theater costuming and has recently enjoyed bringing theater techniques into the cosplay community.
May Jean
May Jean is a costume and prop maker from Washington State, as well as a past ECCC Regional Champion and C2E2 Category Winner for the Crown Championships. She has been cosplaying since 2005 and specializes in elaborate mixed-media builds. May Jean started her artistic journey with traditional drawing and painting, but she has grown to love cosplay immensely because of how much of an incredible creative outlet it is. Some of her favorite aspects of cosplay are challenging herself to learn new skills and making friends from all over the world. She is very excited to meet everyone at NYCC this year!
